The Latest News and Falls Prevention Research with FallsTalkTM

Serving our most vulnerable older adults has always been at the heart of what we do and FallsTalk and FallScapeTM are specifically designed to address the needs of individuals who cannot or do not wish to participate in group falls prevention programs. All of us at Brookside Research & Development are keenly aware of the challenges faced by those of you who serve these individuals. We are currently working to meet the needs of four groups: I- Our FallsTalk and FallScape Facilitators ; II- The older adults that our Facilitators serve; III- Family Caregivers of older adults and those with memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias; IV- Those who would like to learn to offer FallsTalk to older adults in need of falls prevention intervention.

We do not want to clutter your overflowing inbox, so we ask that you come back this page for the latest information updates. Thank you for your commitment to providing much needed support for older adults. Please continue reading this page and know that YOUR contribution to their health and safety MATTERS!

I- New Resources make Remote administration easy for our FallsTalk Facilitators
Our latest software has numerous new tools designed to simplify and extend your digital reach, as well as expanded reports to assist you in working together with your Clients and others in your organization; helping you to offer FallsTalk in the ways that best suit your community. Check out our Upgrade Flyer to find out about free Upgrade Webinars for currently licensed Facilitators and free Refresher Training with renewal. Please email us at Info@FallScape.org for more information.

II- Reach older adults in need of falls prevention services
Expand your community outreach! Our paper version of the FallsTalk Screener includes key CMS/Medicare and Epidemiological criteria that can be completed by people at home or in many different locations. It can help you to identify individuals at moderate to high risk for falls. Organizations have used this paper screener in many creative ways to reach older adults in diverse settings. Learn to combine this paper screening information with FallsTalk screening and assessment tools to provide an array of customized reports and to conduct the FallsTalk behavioral intervention by signing up for our webinar training series.

III- Work with Family Caregivers or Care Partners of older adults and those with memory loss
Our NIH/NIA funded research has expanded FallsTalk to enable trained Facilitators to work with Family Caregivers (FCG) together with their loved ones with memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Review the clinical trial results presented at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference. Participation by a FCG and understanding the self-efficacy of each person has been shown to make a significant difference. Read our research on falls in persons with memory loss, or about the concerns of their Caregivers by clicking on the links in this paragraph.

IV- Learn to offer the FallsTalkTM Behavioral Intervention to older adults by Webinar or Hybrid Training
Several cohorts of the FallsTalk Webinar training series are currently in progress. The next Webinar series will begin in January or February. We are committed to assuring the quality of our training and the fidelity of the intervention and limit the class size. Class schedules depend on the availability of our experienced Master Instructors. FallsTalk training is a pre-requisite for FallScape or FCG intervention training. Please email us at Info@FallScape.org to ask about becoming a licensed FallsTalk Facilitator by completing the training.
